A low-cost 10×40G solution that is compatible with existing Brocade switches (all SFP+ ports + 4 QSFP ports) and requires support for future expansion capabilities.
Overview:
6COM helps our customers and users to realize a 10*40G cost-effective solution. During the process, 6COM designed two solutions for us based on our needs and gave us detailed answers to the questions we asked. Overall, 6COM provided us with quality products and services.

6COM Consideration
- What kind of topology design does the customer request?
- Confirm with customers that 40G QSFPs don’t have a DWDM solution directly but an active OTN system, and which is much more expensive?
- Check what switch ports will SFPs be used on.
6COM Suggestions:
- Considering the customer’s brocade series all SFP+ with 4 QSFP ports,
- We’d suggest almost using 10G DWDM SFP+ to realize this. And using Mux 1310nm link with 40G QSFP like the below sites.
- Also, remind users that OADM is special due to customers needing extension capacities at OADM sites.

– Utilize the customer’s existing three dark fibers and save 80% of hardware investment through passive DWDM (compared with OTN system)
– SFP-10G-SR 10GBASE-SR SFP+ multimode module enables 300m cabinet direct connection in the machine room, avoiding the cost of single-mode fiber splicing
Smooth Upgrade
– Currently deploying 8×10G wavelengths (C21-C28), which can be expanded to 40 wavelengths through OADM in the future
– Compatible with customer Brocade switch SFP+/QSFP hybrid port configuration
Redundant Design
– Dual Mux/Demux parallel deployment, combined with SFP-10G-SR short-distance links to build a ring protection topology
